Nine terror suspects were charged Monday with planning a series of bombings in Britain and ordered to remain in custody.

Details about their alleged plot were not released, but security officials said they were planning substantial attacks on British cities and landmarks. It was described as an extensive plot that posed a real threat to public safety.

The suspects were expected to be back in court Jan. 14 on a variety of terror-related charges including conspiracy to cause explosions.

Chief magistrate Howard Riddle at the City of Westminster Magistrates' Court ordered the men be held until their next court date.

The nine men, and three others who have since been released without charge, were taken into custody last week during dawn raids in London, Cardiff and Stoke-on-Trent in central England.

The nine men ordered held are: Gurukanth Desai, 28, Omar Sharif Latif, 26, and Abdul Malik Miah, 24, from Cardiff, Mohammed Moksudur Rahman Chowdhury, 20, and Shah Mohammed Lutfar Rahman, 28, from London, and Nazam Hussain, 25, Usman Khan, 19, Mohibur Rahman, 26, and Abul Bosher Mohammed Shahjahan, 26, from Stoke-on-Trent.

Republican Joe Miller said he won't stand in the way of Sen. Lisa Murkowski being certified the winner of Alaska's U.S. Senate race, but he vowed to not end his legal fight over the state's handling of the vote count.

Miller's announcement late Sunday paves the way for Murkowski, the incumbent and a write-in candidate, to be officially named winner of the race.

He said he wants to ensure Alaska has full representation when senators are sworn in for the new term of Congress on Jan. 5.

U.S. District Judge Ralph Beistline last month said the state courts were in a better position, at least initially, to decide who had won. He barred the state from certifying the results until the "serious" legal issues raised by Miller were addressed and said he'd remain available for Miller to argue any outstanding claims once the state courts had their say.

On Wednesday, the Alaska Supreme Court refused to overturn election results favoring Murkowski, saying it found "no remaining issues raised by Miller that prevent this election from being certified."

Earlier this month, Beistline said Alaska should have a senator in place when Congress' new term begins, even if that means later having to replace that person when all legal disputes are eventually resolved.

A pilot who posted videos on YouTube that were critical of security at San Francisco International Airport is now the subject of an investigation, the pilot's attorney says.

The pilot placed several videos on YouTube in late November or early December that showed how ground crew members can enter secure areas by swiping security cards and without undergoing further screening.

The Transportation Security Administration is looking into whether the pilot revealed sensitive information, his attorney, Don Werno of the Santa Ana-based law firm Werno and Associates, said Friday.

The TSA wouldn't answer questions but said in a statement it is responding to the situation and is confident in the security at San Francisco International Airport.

"As to access control at SFO, TSA is confident in the tools the airport has implemented and reminds passengers there are security measures in place that are both seen and unseen."

The pilot remains employed with a major airline, but he has withdrawn from a program that trains flight crew to help prevent hijackings after authorities confiscated his federally issued firearm, Werno said. He declined to release the pilot's name, citing concerns about the man's job.

In the footage, the pilot says that pilots undergo intense screening, but then have access to ax-like weapons that are stored in the cockpit in case of emergencies.

The man who sold his Southern California home to "Octomom" Nadya Suleman said Sunday that he's going ahead with eviction proceedings because she hasn't made a long overdue $450,000 payment.

Amer Haddadin said he'll evict Suleman if she and her lawyer Jeff Czech don't pay the balance on the house by Friday. A balloon payment was due Oct. 9.

"I think they have money, but they are hiding the money," Haddadin said.

Suleman and Czech were served notice on Dec. 2 by mail and by hand, Haddadin said. He expects the eviction to be speedy.

Suleman and her 14 children have lived in the 4-bedroom house for nearly two years, ever since she brought her octuplets home to the quiet cul-de-sac in La Habra, about 25 miles east of Los Angeles. Her father purchased the home for $565,000, including a $130,000 down payment.

Suleman's father, Ed Doud, cut a deal with Haddadin for the house because a traditional bank loan wasn't available to Suleman, who is unmarried and unemployed. She previously lived with her mother in a small Whittier home before that house was foreclosed on.

In April, Haddadin granted a 6-month extension on the remaining balance, and says that as a Jordanian, he took pity on a fellow Arab in a tough spot, and pledged to help Doud, who is Palestinian.

A new state law that will take effect on New Year's Day requires pet stores to give potential buyers the details of every animal's health history.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture says the new law will require that stores provide an animal's vaccination history and other details about its health. Stores also will have to disclose the name of the breeder as well as the animal's date of birth, breed and other details.

The department says stores now must disclose such information only if it is requested and sometimes don't provide it until a sale is final.

The law makes allowances for animal shelters and animal control facilities that often don't know an animal's history.

A midlevel court has upheld a judge's $250,000 award to a woman falsely implicated in four gruesome 1989 murders in central New York.

The Appellate Division panel declined to raise the award to 74-year-old Shirley Turner Kinge for malicious prosecution and negligent supervision of a State Police investigator who later admitted planting her fingerprints on a gas can. Kinge originally sued New York for $500 million.

The gas can was left at the house where the Harris family was shot and their bodies set on fire in Dryden, 40 miles south of Syracuse.

Kinge, who used Harris' credit cards afterward, spent 2 1/2 years in prison on arson and burglary convictions later overturned.

Her son Michael Kinge was shot dead when troopers tried to arrest him for the murders in 1990.
